What We Do
TEDS is a registered charity (#567), which was founded in 2002 by Margaret Vaucrosson and Tony Forrester with a focus on meeting the needs of Bermuda’s homeless population. The principal aim of the society was to provide those in need with “A hand up, not a hand-out.”
In 2010, the organizations focus shifted from feeding the homeless, to providing support to any person in Bermuda that was food insecure.
Food insecurity is defined as a lack of consistent access to enough food for every person in a household to live an active, healthy life.
At TEDS we recognize that food insecurity has both physical and emotional impact on those affected by it and that families are often forced to choose between buying food, or paying for utilities, rent, and medical care.
By providing healthy and nutritious food options to our clients each week we reduce the cost of food, allowing them to have more money available for their household expenses.
Additionally, we believe that whenever possible TEDS should provide support to, and collaborate with, our local charitable partners. Finding synergies and maximizing our efforts allows us to become more efficient organizations, while having greater impact on those that need our assistance
For us there is nothing more impactful than knowing we have touched the lives of others in a positive way.
There are no words to express gratitude and appreciation for what you all do for us in Bermuda. It takes a special kind of people to be helping us with food
When I receive the supplies and drinks the children are very happy. I inform them because I am unable to work, that THE Eliza DoLittle Society are a helping hand to us. I personally thankyou for all you are doing and have done for us
My family is now operating on one income. Receiving food staples from TEDS has been humbling, beneficial and uplifting. When I become employed again full-time I will support this vital service in our community.”
